This is why farmers are venting their anger on the resources of these companies. Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited (RJIL) has said in a petition filed in the Punjab and Haryana High Court that it has nothing to do with the three agricultural laws.

In the midst of the ongoing peasant movement in the country, Reliance Industries has stated that it has no intention of buying agricultural land for corporate farming in Punjab-Haryana or anywhere in the country.

Significantly, there is a perception among the farmers that the new agricultural laws will benefit industrialists like Mukesh Ambani-Gautam Adani and corporate people will grab their land. This is why farmers are venting their anger on the resources of these companies. In Punjab, agitators have damaged more than 1500 telecom towers connected to Jio.

What did Reliance say

The company said that it has nothing to do with the agricultural laws and by adding them, its business and reputation is being damaged.Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited (RJIL), a subsidiary of Reliance Industries Limited, has said in a petition filed in the Punjab and Haryana High Court that it has nothing to do with the three agricultural laws, it does not benefit them in any way. The company said that Reliance Retail, Jio Infocomm or any company associated with them have never undertaken ‘corporate’ or ‘contract’ farming and have no intention of doing so in the near future.

The company said, “Reliance and any of its subsidiaries have not purchased agricultural land directly or indirectly for corporate or contract farming in Punjab, Haryana or any part of the country. We have no plans to pursue it .

The company has requested the state government to intervene to prevent illegal action to damage its towers. The company said in its petition, “The action of violence has endangered the lives of thousands of its employees and disrupted essential communications, sales and service infrastructure.”

Damage to mobile towers

According to the report, so far more than 1500 mobile towers have been damaged in Punjab, power of many mobile towers has been cut, bundles of wire have been burnt in many places.

It is alleged that the farmers and their allies protesting against the new agricultural laws are damaging the mobile towers. Earlier, farmers were accused of venting their anger on Reliance Petrol Pump, Reliance Retail. In the last few days, incidents of cutting of power of mobile towers, cutting of electric wires were coming out in Punjab.
