स्वतंत्रता के साथ है भारत की स्थल तथा वायु सेना को 1947-48 मैं कश्मीर में पाकिस्तान के विरुद्ध लड़ना पड़ा क्योंकि पाकिस्तान ने अपने दस्ते भेजकर कश्मीर को हड़पने के लिए हमला कर दिया था | यह पहला युद्ध जिसमें भारतीय अफसरों ने उच्च कमान संभाली तथा पहाड़ों व बर्फ में बड़ी-बड़ी सेनाओं को एकत्र करके उनका संचालन करने में चतुरता दिखाएं | शीघ्र पाकिस्तानी सेना को पीछे हटकर युद्ध विराम के लिए मजबूर होना पड़ा | इस युद्ध में मेजर सोमदत्त शर्मा को अपनी सुरवीरता के कारण मरणोपरांत “परमवीर चक्र” दिया गया |
India’s site and the Air Force had to fight against Pakistan in Kashmir in 1947-48 because Pakistan had sent its squad and attacked Kashmir to grab it. This was the first war in which Indian officers held high command and gathered smart armies in the mountains and snow to show them cleverness. Soon the Pakistani army was forced to retreat and to ceasefire. In this war, Major Somdutt Sharma was posthumously awarded the “Paramveer Chakra” due to his heroism.
