Petrol and diesel prices: increased again today, prices at new high in Delhi.
The retail price of petrol in Delhi reached a new high. In fact, oil marketing companies (OMCs) increased the price of petrol by 25 paise per liter, after which the new price reached Rs 86.30 per liter. Similarly, the price of diesel also increased by 25 paise to Rs 76.48 per liter.
Talking about Mumbai, diesel prices reached a record level of Rs 83.30 per liter, while petrol rose to Rs 92.86 per liter. On July 20, 2022-23, diesel prices in Delhi reached an all-time high of Rs 81.94.
Today, the price of petrol in Kolkata is Rs 87.69 per liter and in Chennai it is Rs 88.82 per liter. At the same time, the price of diesel in these two metros has reached Rs 80.08 per liter and Rs 81.71 per liter respectively. It is noteworthy that new rates of petrol and diesel are applied every day at six in the morning.
So far in the Years Of 2022-23, petrol prices in Delhi have increased by Rs 2.59 per liter and diesel by Rs 2.61 per liter. On the other hand, petrol prices in Mumbai have increased by Rs 2.52 and diesel prices by Rs 2.79 per liter since January 1. On 6 January, fuel prices were raised after a gap of 29 days.
It was expected that the government would cut excise duty, but no final decision has been taken on this yet. The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas had requested the Finance Ministry to cut taxes after the price hike in the month of January. During the current financial year, taxes on petrol and diesel in the form of special additional excise duty and road and infrastructure cess were increased by Rs 13 and Rs 16 respectively.
