PM Boris Johnson to be chief guest on 26 January; PM Modi gets invitation to attend G7 summit.

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson will be the chief guest at this year’s Republic Day Celebrations. Britain’s Foreign Minister Dominic Raab has confirmed this. He announced this at a joint press conference after a conversation with India’s foreign minister S Jaishankar. In the conference, Jaishankar said that the two countries had a 4-hour long discussion on various issues. The focus of India and Britain is on how to take bilateral relations between the two countries to a higher level.

In the conference, Raab said that British PM Boris Johnson has invited India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi to attend the UK-hosted G7 Summit next year. The British PM has also accepted India’s invitation to attend the Republic Day celebrations of India as the chief guest on 26 January. It is a matter of great honor.

Second British leader to join Republic Day parade after independence
This will be Johnson’s first major bilateral tour since becoming PM. According to Downing Street (the place where the PM office is in London), trade and investment, defense and security, health and climate change will be major issues in negotiations between India and Britain for next year’s tour.Johnson is the second British leader after India’s independence to attend the Republic Day celebrations in New Delhi as the chief guest. Earlier in 1993, British PM John Major was invited.

Johnson says, “I am very happy to visit India next year. India, a leader in the Indo-Pacific region, is a growing partner for the UK as we work towards promoting jobs and growth, dealing with common threats and protecting the world.
