Sensex, a 30-share sensitive index of the BSE, opened with a gain of 375 points on Monday, but fell after that.At 09:45 am, the Sensex was trending at a level of 48,681.85 points, falling 196.69 points, ie 0.40 percent. On the other hand, NSE Nifty was trending at 14,307.90 points, down by 64 points, ie 0.45 per cent. Earlier Nifty opened at the level of 14,477.80 points.

Sensex closed at the level of 48,878.54 points in the previous session.

Reliance Industries shares saw a 4.25 per cent fall in the Sensex at 1.30 am. Apart from this, shares of Asian Paint also declined by 2.95 percent. At the same time, IndusInd Bank, ONGC, PowerGrid, SBI, Nestle India, HCL Tech, ITC, Doctor Reddy’s, Sun Pharma, Tech Mahindra, Larsen & Toubro, Maruti, Bharti Airtel, Hindustan Unilever Limited, NTPC, Bajaj Auto, Titan, Mahindra & Mahindra and Kotak Mahindra Bank shares were trending with a red mark.

On the other hand, HDFC shares were trending up to 2.28 per cent. At the same time, the shares of Bajaj Finance, HDFC Bank, Bajaj Finzerv, ICICI Bank, TCS, Ultratech Cement, Infosys and Axis Bank were trending with green mark.Foreign institutional investors sold shares worth Rs 635.69 crore on a net basis on Friday, according to provisional data from the stock markets.Experts say that due to the Republic Day holiday this week, monthly derivatives expiry, quarterly earnings figures and the upcoming budget, the stock markets may see very high volatility.

Stock markets will remain closed on Tuesday on Republic Day.

Other Asian stock markets are seeing a spurt in the afternoon session on Monday.
